Problems with accessing the Members’ Site

1) Are you using the correct PIN?

All Institute members were issued with a 5 digit PIN following the merger of the IOM and IMM. New members joining after August 2002 will have been notified of their PIN on joining.

Members should ignore any letters preceding their PIN and use the number only for access to this site.

The old 11 digit PIN issued on the plastic membership card of the former Institute of Materials (IoM) is no longer valid.

If you cannot find or remember your new PIN, please
  • use the Lost PIN facility link on the Login page (to use this you will need to provide your membership number, date of birth and email address),
  • Email member.services@iom3.org, or
  • Phone Member Services on +44 (0)1782 221704
2) Are you using the correct username?

Your username is your surname, without any initials. The log-in system is not case sensitive.

3) Does your system accept cookies?

The WAM Members' Area uses a type of cookie called a Session Cookie to allow communication between your browser and the web server. This type of cookie is very different from the persistent cookies used to track someone's activities on the internet.

These session cookies are essential to the proper function of the Members' Area. The site will not work properly if your browser does not accept Session Cookies.

What is a Session Cookie and how does it work?
Once you log in to the Members' Area, the server will place a session variable(s) in the memory of your computer called a Session Cookie. This file tells the web server that you are logged in.

Every time your browser accesses a page in the Members' Area, the server will look for this session cookie. If the server cannot find the cookie on your computer, it will prevent your browser from displaying the page you requested and present the login page.
